My Bug List

  1. Whenever I wash my clothes in the washing machine in my apartment, the washer always fades the colors of my clothes and causes little tears and pulls in brand new clothing.
    1. I believe that this occurs because the washer is not designed to properly handle delicate clothing, and there are pieces of the washing machine that should be eliminated.
  2. At 3:00 p.m., when I want to go to the gym, Student Rec is always crammed and there is a line just to get into the gym!
    1. This happens because that is a common time for people to take a break and go workout.
  3. When I am shopping online at popular stores such as LuluLemon, sometimes they have not properly updated on the sizes that they still have in stock.
    1. This occurs because the online systems are not efficient enough to update as people make orders all around the country.
  4. In the mornings before class, the line at Starbucks in the Hub on campus practically goes out the door and takes forever just to put in an order.
    1. This happens because a lot of people who have early classes need coffee before class, so that they can stay awake throughout the period.
  5. When I am working at Swamp, people will constantly walk in and seat themselves without seeing the hostess at the front, and this causes a lot of stress for the servers.
    1. People seat themselves because we have so many seating options, and we have a very laid-back atmosphere.
  6. Since I am taking an online class at the University of Florida, I am always struggling to make sure that I am keeping up with the assignments, since I do not have a teacher reminding me in person what we have to do that week.
    1. It is easier for the university to make certain classes available online that lots of students want to take, therefore the classrooms are not too crowded and teachers are less overwhelmed.
  7. I crashed on my scooter recently in Gainesville and brought it to Solano Cycle off of Main Street, and they said that they would give me a quote, but they have not contacted me in over two weeks!
    1. I think that this is happening because a lot of students in Gainesville have scooters that require service, but the store does not have enough employees to efficiently handle everyone.
  8. In my apartment complex just off of campus, the wifi that my roommates and I share always disconnects, even though there is only three of us using it!
    1. I think that this happens because our apartment complex, through Trimark, provides a cheap wifi service that cannot handle all of its tenants trying to connect to it simultaneously.
  9. The crockpot that my roommate purchased at Publix cannot be properly cleaned after using it to cook for multiple hours because the material was cheaply made and cannot handle cooking for long periods.
    1. This happens because the company does not account for people who are going to cook with a crockpot for multiple hours at a time.
  10. On Friday and Saturday nights, Pizza-by-the-slice in midtown always has a line all the way down the street because people always crave pizza late at night when they are out.
    1. Clearly, Pizza-by-the-slice does not properly account for how much pizza to make at a time or how many employees should be working on certain nights in order to handle the busy hours.
  11. The Ninja blender that my roommates and I all use does not properly blend all of the fruits and powders that we put in it to make smoothies.
    1. The blender's blades are not properly designed in a way that can affectively cut up all of the food.
  12. The Westinghouse television that my roommates and I have in our living room does not have a remote, but the universal remote that we purchased does not properly hook up to the tv.
    1. The universal remote does not have specific enough instructions for us to understand exactly how we should be hooking it up to the television.
  13. The brand new Genuine Buddy 50cc scooter that I recently purchased tends to shut off in the middle of me riding it due to the cold weather!
    1. I think this happens because the engine gets too cold to steadily run, and this causes the scooter to freeze up and shut off.
  14. The brand new Genuine Buddy 50cc scooter that I recently purchased tends to vibrate heavily in the front when I use the brakes.
    1. I think this happens because something was manufactured incorrectly, and the store that sold the scooter did not properly check all of its functions.
  15. The washer/dryer that our apartment complex provides to us in our apartment constantly vibrates and shakes to the point of banging in the laundry room every time it is used and causes damage to the room and our clothing.
    1. This may occur because the washer/dryer provided to us by Trimark is very old and has not been properly maintained and updated.
  16. When I am using my laptop on campus, my computer tends to try to automatically connect to the UF-info or UF-visitor wifi options, instead of connecting to UF wifi.
    1. This may happen because of the amount of students and non-students on campus that are trying to connect to the wifi, therefore it causes malfunctions with the routers throughout campus.
  17. When I am baking using the Hotpoint oven that is in my apartment, the burners on the stove will get hot just because I am heating up the oven even though no one has turned on the burners.
    1. I think this happens because there is some type of connection with the burners and the oven that should be fixed, because people have burned themselves not expecting that the burners would be hot.
  18. The Glade room plug-ins that my roommates and I plug into the walls make the apartment smell too strong, and they run out too quickly.
    1. This happens because there is no setting on these plug-ins that allow them to put off much less scent over a much longer period of time.
  19. Sometimes, the alarm on my iPhone 5s does not sound loud enough in the mornings to wake me up, therefore I sleep too late and end up rushing to get ready for school or work.
    1. I think that this happens because people can become accustomed to hearing their phones ringing, so it no longer wakes them up at a certain point.
  20. The shellac nail polish that I get put on my nails when I go to the nail salon off of Archer road does not last as long as the company says it is supposed to.
    1. I think that this happens because the company is not really accounting for people who do a lot with their hands such as work in restaurants, play sports, or exercise a lot.

Personally, I found coming up with 20 "bugs" pretty difficult because I am not easily annoyed by products. I do not rely too heavily on every product I have working perfectly because I understand that every product has its imperfections. I always try not to focus on things that bug me because I do not like having that type of mindset. However, this exercise has made me realize that there are a lot more little problems with products and services that I use than I expected. I am certain that now I will pay more attention to the products and services that I use, and I will focus on what can be improved in them.

    1. I also found making the bug list relatively difficult. I struggled to make it all about products and services and ended up talking about pet peeves of mine as well. But in doing so I was able to notice common themes relating to all items on my bug list that relate to consumer habits. For example, one of mine was a distaste for waiting for very long for any product or service. I believe that there are several common bugs such as these that exist among many or all consumers and its important for companies to recognize them.

    2. Interesting list Wallane. This exercise is aimed to make you notice the small details in things happening around us. Keep asking why, it's the way to identify opportunities. Keep up the good work!

    3. Very clever list Wallace! I see that we share a lot of similar bugs. I agree completely that the line and amount of people at student rec is way too crowded at certain times. I think the best solution to this issue would be to build a bigger and better gym. I also agree the starbucks line is way too long. Sounds similar to one of my bugs, the chipotle line being too long. Check it out!
